THE STOLEN CHILD/FISHERMANS BLUES...THE WATERBOYS..

Come away, human child
to the water
Come away, human child
to the water and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand
for the world's more full of weeping than you can understand

Where dips the rocky highland
of Sleuth Wood in the lake
There lies a leafy island
where flapping herons wake
The drowsy water rats;
there we've hid our faery vats
Full of berries
and of reddest stolen cherries

Come away, human child
to the water
Come away, human child
to the water and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand
for the world's more full of weeping than you can understand

Where the wave of moonlight glosses
the dim gray sands with light
Far off by furthest Rosses
we foot it all the night
Weaving olden dances
mingling hands and mingling glances
Till the moon has taken flight;
to and fro we leap
ANd chase the frothy bubbles
while the world is full of troubles
And is anxious in its sleep

Come away, human child
to the water
Come away, human child
to the water and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand
for the world's more full of weeping than you can understand

Where the wandering water gushes
from the hills above Glen-Car
In pools among the rushes
the scarce could bathe a star
We seek for slumbering trout
and whispering in their ears
We give them unquiet dreams;
leaning softly out
From ferns that drop their tears
over the young streams

Away with us he's going
the solemn-eyed:
He'll hear no more the lowing
of the calves on the warm hillside;
Or the kettle on the hob
sing peace into his breast
Or see the brown mice bob
around and around the oatmeal-chest

For he comes, the human child
to the water
He comes, the human child
to the water and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand
from a world more full of weeping than he can understand
Human child
human child
With a faery, hand in hand
from a world more full of weeping than he can understand...
than he can understand...
he can understand...

wish I was a fisherman
tumblin' on the seas
Far away from dry land
and its bitter memories
Casting out my sweet line
with abandonment and love
No ceiling bearin' down on me
Save the starry sky above
With light in my head
you in my arms
Woo!

I wish I was the brakeman
on a hurtlin' fevered train
Crashing a-headlong into the heartland
like a cannon in the rain
With the beating of the sleepers
and the burnin' of the coal
Counting the towns flashing by
in a night that's full of soul
With light in my head
you in my arms
Woo!

Tomorrow I will be loosened
from bonds that hold me fast
That the chains all hung around me
will fall away at last
And on that fine and fateful day
I will take thee in my hands
I will ride on the train
I will be the fisherman
With light in my head
you in my arms

Light in my head
You in my arms (repeat)

Lovely lyrics. I really like the Waterboys and love the water. Glad you provided lyrics to accompany the video. Good of you to share.

Beautiful lyrics...very haunting and ethereal. It's a shame the vid is not all that clear...well, I can't seem to see it too well, so maybe it's me, but I love these words and the music too. Thanks for the introduction ...never heard it before xxx

I have never heard of the Waterboys, but I like their sound. Good video, and I love water, peaceful and calming. That's what I am getting from the lyrics.

xx

Seems I'm a rarity in not knowing them, Gypsy. Must have been one of thes I missed along the way - I will go check them out immediately! Maybe it was during my SA confinement...lol

Aha...just back from googling the waterboys, and as I suspected, they were an 80's band, which is definitely why I haven't come across them before (was living in the cultural black hole os SA at the time) - although I did have an album by World Party once, which is strange. I really liked it too. Right, next task is to do some more listening...byeee! xxx

I think I have heard of the Waterboys... mostly as Ian is a serious music buff. Hold on... I'll go check his collection...

Right then. I found 4 of them: The Best of the Waterboys, 81-90, and Dream Harder on CD, and on good old records, Fisherman's Blue and A Pagan Place.
Are those good ones?

Nice, Gypsy, very nice. I'd heard of these guys, but not followed through, and I see I've been missing something. I'm a bit of a sucker for good folky-influenced music. Love a fiddle in the right hands.
