DARK BUT TRUE LOVE...

WUTHERING HEIGHTS ...in my mind the greatest love story ever told although dark....heathcliff is wild, passionate, obsessive, cruel yet soulfull loving and true.....cathy is vain, materialistic, flighty and snobbish yet her love for heathcliff she can not escape she would rather die and does because she can not have him in life through her own choice...she marrys linton for stature and money...heathcliff marrys lintons sister isabella as revenge he even says to her "Why are your eyes always empty? Like Linton's eyes".....isabella even says at one point "If Cathy died... I might begin to live." ..Some key quotes from the film ...HEATHCLIFF.... If he loved you with all the power of his soul for a whole lifetime he couldn't love you as much as I do in a single day. Not he. Not the world. Not even you, Cathy, can come between us. ...... You just want to send me off. That won't do. I've stayed here and been beaten like a dog. Abused and cursed and driven mad, but I stayed just to be near you. Even as a dog! And I'll stay till the end. I'll live and I'll die under this rock! ..... I want to crawl to her feet, whimper to be forgiven... for loving me. For needing her more than my own life... for belonging to her more than my own soul....Tell the dirty stable boy to let go of you. He soiled your pretty dress. But who soiled your heart? Not Heathcliff. Who turns you into a vain, cheap, worldly fool? Linton does. You'll never love him, but you'll let yourself be loved because it pleases your stupid, greedy vanity. ....My tears don't love you, Cathy. They blight and curse and damn you! Heathcliff, don't break my heart. Oh Cathy, I never broke your heart. You broke it! CATHY...He seems to take pleasure in being mean and brutal. And yet, he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. And Linton's is as different as frost from fire... Ellen, I AM Heathcliff...Everything he's suffered, I've suffered. The little happiness he's ever known, I've had too. Oh, Ellen, if everything in the world died and Heathcliff remained, life would still be full for me. HINDLEY... If she's run off with that gypsy scum, let her run. Let her run through storm and Hell. They're birds of a feather and the Devil can take them both. .... FINALLY HEATHCLIFFS LAST WORDS AS CATHY LIES DEAD IN HIS ARMS... Catherine Earnshaw, may you not rest so long as I live on! I killed you. Haunt me, then! Haunt your murderer! I know that ghosts have wandered on the Earth. Be with me always. Take any form, drive me mad, only do not leave me in this dark alone where I cannot find you. I cannot live without my life! I cannot die without my soul....SHE HAUNTS HIS VERY SOUL TILL EVENTUALLY HEATHCLIFF DIES ON THE MOORES CHASING HER GHOST..THEN THEIR SPIRITS ARE TOGETHER FOREVER HAPPINESS THEIRS AT LAST...

I've read Wuthering heights two or three times, but reading these excerpts kind of concentrates the essence of the story, Gypsy....so very powerful, so very tragic. An incredible story, beautifully told.

Do you feel some connection with it..I mean, the countryside in your part of the world lends itself to this kind of drama doesn't it?

Am having an early night tonight, so hope you feel better, sweetie. Sleep well too..no dreams of haunted moors and desperate spirits..!

Thank and you're so sweet to think of me, Gypsy!

I've spent all day putting some of my more memorable posts onto hard copy.
I now have a large binder with something like a history of the past year or so...

:)

Hopefully not ebola!
