FOR JANIS...1943-1970

Janis joplin was in my mind one of the best female singers of our time...her voice makes my hairs stand on end..she sings from a tortured soul...a blues/rock singer, she sang with hendrix, dylan, the doors..and many more ..PIECE OF MY HEART..a classic..her version of SUMMERTIME is stunning...and my favourites KOZMIC BLUES AND CRY BABY...the last song she recorded was MERCEDES BENZ..she died aged 27 in october 1970 of a heroin overdoes...she recorded a birthday greeting for JOHN LENNON....but by that time he recieved it she was dead...JOAN BAEZ wrote this song for her.... In The Quiet Morning (For Janis Joplin) ..There was much despair And in the hours that followed No one could repair, That poor girl Tossed by the tides of misfortune Barely here to tell her tale, Rolled in on a sea of disaster, Rolled out on a mainline rail ,She once walked tight at my side ,I'm sure she walked by you, Her striding steps could not deny, Torment from a child who knew, That in the quiet morning There would be despair And in the hours that followed No one could repair, That poor girl She cried out her song so loud, It was heard the whole world round ,A symphony of violence The great southwest unbound...

Lovely tribute.
Did you know that the movie "The Rose" was based on her life? Apparently she was very lonely. Amazing she was only 27 on her death. Thankfully her music lives on.
Yes, there are women in rock and roll heaven...
I was going to put Janis on my post... but I thought I'd leave her for you...
She was pretty amazing and was so young - yet so old...
It's sad how many herion has taken down.
yes the rose was loosly based on janis...there is currently being made a bio pic of janis set to be finished in 2008 apparently zooey deschanel is going to play her...yeah i hate herion its filth..i read a fantasic book when i was 15 called *strange ecstasys*..it was was 8 drug related storys..the one i always remember it one called deep fix....about a guys first herion fix...he made it sound so wonderful..he discribe the first hit and said he was swimming about in his own eye looking down on himself..wow!...

im feeling surreal..i was so bad i went to the dentist once ..he removed me and charged the tooth..lol..
I didn't know Joan Baez had written a song for Janis. Beautiful lyrics, and very moving. A precious tribute to a brilliant and tragic life.
Your heroin story is creepy Gypsy..I shared a room at school with a girl who took a lot of acid. Nursed her through a couple of bad trips...now there was surreal..the things she came out with..luckily it put me off drugs for ever.
I hope your got your teeth into that dentist..lol! Were they very highly charged?

i know what you mean val..i had a bad trip once..bloody stuff didn't work..had to shoot the dealer for my 33pence back..ho hum..highly charged?...my molar had to get a second morgage to pay for me!..
I shared the odd acid trip with a friend of mine who kept living the same one over again...
...she always thought she was drowning.
No experience with H thank god, but have known a few who have...
I admit I've had a few run-ins with over proof... that's proof enough for me
hee hee
Stop with the edgy music. Me and my brother prefer the softer classical stuff like Handel and Mozart. When we hear the harder stuff we get nervous, especially if there's dancing going on.
Golly, I wish Amadeus still lived
get over it leo
Me and mummy both loved Janis.
Mummy lets us get toasted on catnip once in a while. I think she has her own version too, but that's where we all draw the line.
And we never nip and drive.
*bisous*
